Turn Two for Youth Program Accepting Donations in the Chicago Southland

By published November 04, 2019

Lansing, Ill. – Turn Two for Youth is once again accepting donations throughout the Chicago Southland in the form of baseball equipment. Turn Two for Youth is a non-profit, charitable organization that was formed to help collect and distribute baseball equipment to underprivileged children around the world. Turn Two for Youth is the official charity of the American Baseball Coaches Association and is a proud supplier to Miracle League.

Originating in North Carolina, the desire to donate has spread throughout the United States, including right here in the Chicago Southland area. For the past four years, the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau has hosted a Turn Two sports drive. In its first three years, the CVB collected over 5,000 items for the charity. This year, the CVB will be collecting donations from now until November 18.

In addition to the CVB office in Lansing, donations can be dropped off at the New Lenox Park District, Mokena Park District or Hoosier Sports in Dyer, Indiana. We will be accepting fielding gloves, bats (wood and aluminum), batting helmets, baseballs, uniforms, belts, catcher’s gear, catcher’s mitts, equipment bags, cleats, sets of bases, batting tees and pitching machines.

After the equipment is collected, it is shipped to Charlotte, North Carolina, where it is cleaned, refurbished and stored until a complete container of gear can be shipped to a pre-qualified area. Turn Two for Youth carefully selects credible volunteer organizations to ensure that the equipment is delivered and distributed as intended. Typically, churches and baseball organizations are central to the distribution process.

“Turn Two for Youth is an excellent charitable organization and we are thrilled to be partnering with them again in 2019,” said Jim Garrett, President/CEO of the Visit Chicago Southland. “We are proud to bring the gift of baseball to kids around the world, and we are lucky to have outstanding partnerships with the New Lenox and Mokena Park Districts and Hoosier Sports in Dyer.”

The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau is the official destination management and marketing organization for Chicago’s 63 south and southwest suburbs. The Visit Chicago Southland markets the Chicago Southland region as a destination for meetings and conventions, group tour, sports events and leisure.
